But when we read William Thomas Walsh's excellent biography of Isabella of Spain: The Last Crusader, pre-1936 editions as they were heavily redacted thereafter, it was a JRM that finally compelled Isabella to pull out a Vatican issued papal bull she had kept locked in a chest for ten years, giving permission for Spain to expel the Sephardics.
I know Toaff concentrated on Italian JRM. But his version of history does not grok with Spain's real history.
We learned from Schramm that the physical butchers are of the Schneerson lineage, of the Zaddikim sect. The Zaddikim cult were exposed in Not In His Image, by John Lamb Lash.
Who is Schramm? All I came up w/ was a German horror movie about a serial killer which didn't mention JRM as far as I could tell.
As for the Zaddikim cult that Lash frequently speaks of in NIHI, he seems to consider them a historical cult. He focuses on them in the Essene commune on the Dead Sea and then connects them back to the biblical figure of Melchizedek. Not sure that Schneerson's followers would be connected to JRM either. They're a relatively modern group of orthodox Jews. Lash doesn't mention him at all.
Professor Helmut Schramm, PhD. I'd read his book twice online but it wasn't until I read it the third time in hard copy that I picked up the clue that Schramm left us, to connect the dots.
Lash did not mention him in Not In His Image simply because he hadn't yet read Schramm when he wrote it. The name Schneerson belongs to a special, highly revered bloodline within Jewish ethnicity from which come the tzaddik schachters. Their movement's modernity is not necessarily related to the historical bloodline.
