Saint Anthony Mary Claret and the Jews
Saint Anthony Mary Claret was a nineteenth century Spanish Saint, Archbishop and Missionary who was also the confessor and private spiritual adviser to Queen Isabella II of Spain.
What you may not know about him however is that like many devout Catholics of the time and throughout history – contrary to many in our post-modern world – is that he saw jews as the enemies and accusers of Jesus Christ (1) as well as the ongoing and devoted opponents of Christianity and specifically the Roman Catholic Church. (2)
A good example of this is when he cites the Christian tradition – although there is no evidence to really support it – that the Prophet Jeremiah was stoned to death in Egypt by the jews and therefore murdered by the ‘Chosen People’ much as Jesus Christ was. (3)
So therefore, we can see that Saint Anthony Mary Claret was in reality a Catholic opponent of everything that was jewish and/or linked to Judaism.
