Is Hugh Hefner Jewish?

The founder of Playboy Hugh Marston Hefner was a character who people persist with trying to identify as being of jewish origin. (1) For the sake of clarity I decided that I would briefly look into the issue.

According to Hefner himself he was born in Chicago on 9 April 1926 to Glenn Lucius Hefner and Grace Caroline Swanson. His parents were both originally from the farmlands of Nebraska. He states that his father was of German origin, while his mother was of Swedish ancestry. (2)

Hefner openly states that his family was middle-class and Protestant. (3) This something that hasn't changed over the yearsas he often gives it as a good part of his rationale for starting 'Playboy' as part of his 'liberation' from the strict Christian morality of his parents. (4)

Despite the desire to think Hefner should be jewish: there is no evidence of such that I can find and as such we can only reply in the negative that he is not.
