Hoax Alert: Anti-Semitism at American University (2023)
In yet another incident of so-called ‘anti-Semitic hate crime’ which is remarkably similar to the one that I analysed that occurred at Stanford University in California in March 2023; (1) we have one that occurred in October 2023 at American University in Washington D.C.
According to Jordan Young writing at ‘The Eagle Online’ (American University’s student newspaper) we read how:
‘Swastikas and a Nazi slogan were drawn on the doors of two residence hall rooms belonging to Jewish students and in a bathroom in Letts Hall on Thursday night, American University President Sylvia Burwell announced to the community in an email Friday afternoon.’ (2)
And are further told that:
‘The antisemitic vandalism follows a swastika being found on a ceiling tile in an Anderson Hall bathroom in September 2022 — during Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. In September 2021, four symbols — three of which were Nazi propaganda — were found carved into a men’s bathroom stall on the Lower Level of Anderson Hall. The symbols — two swastikas, Nazi SS (Schutzstaffel) bolts and a Star of David — were found between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, which is the holiest Jewish holiday.’ (3)
These claims are remarkably similar to those at Stanford University earlier in 2023 when a series of events are assumed to be ‘linked together’ – in Stanford’s case they at least made it clear to CNN that they didn’t think they were related or at least had no evidence they were – while Young simply assumes they must ipso facto be linked in some way or even have the same perpetrator(s).
The reality is of course that these incidents are unlikely to be linked and probably simply represent student high jinks to trigger/get back at each other or jewish students engaging in ‘anti-Semitic hate crime’ hoaxes to ‘raise awareness about anti-Semitism’.
The reason we can make such a claim is that this incident once again bears an almost uncanny resemblance to the confirmed and very deliberate ‘anti-Semitic hate crime’ hoax perpetuated by Sarah Marshak; who was a jewish student at neighbouring George Washington University in University Halls of Residence in October 2007. (4)
Marshak was only caught because campus security at George Washington University had the foresight to place hidden cameras in front of Marshak’s door to see if they could catch the perpetrator in action and ended up discovering that Marshak was writing anti-Semitic and pro-Hitler graffiti on her own door then claiming to be a ‘victim’ of an ‘anti-Semitic hate crime’ that she herself perpetuated!
So, no unless there is actual evidence that this was an ‘anti-Semitic hate crime’ and not either student high jinks designed to trigger each other (with no ‘anti-Semitic’ motive) or jewish students committing fake ‘anti-Semitic hate crimes’ against each other and/or themselves ‘to raise awareness about anti-Semitism’ then we can only view any such claims with scepticism.
After all it is on the accuser to prove their contention not just assume it is so.
