You’d be forgiven for not having heard of Dr. Hershel Goldman who made his fortune chopping off the tips of the penises of male children in Melbourne, Australia but unfortunately for his patients was apparently utterly incompetent and managed to seriously injure several instead.
As the ‘Daily Mail’ relates:
‘A top Melbourne circumcision doctor has been banned from performing the operation after he mistakenly amputated two young boys' penises.
Dr Hershel Goldman's licence was restricted by the Medical Board of Australia on April 4 - preventing him from performing the procedure he has done on more than 20,000 occasions.
He is fighting the ban at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), which heard on Thursday that one child was so seriously injured they required a blood transfusion and the other is potentially permanently disfigured, reports The Herald Sun.
The board is allowing Dr Goldman to continue to work as a GP but is standing its ground on disallowing him from performing the operation he specialises in.
He has agreed to not perform circumcisions at religious ceremonies in people's homes, where the two incidents occurred, but wants to be allowed to perform them at his business, Melbourne Circumcision Centre in Noble Park and Cairnlea.
VCAT heard in one of the incidents those in attendance at the ceremony, some of whom happened to be doctors, stepped in to help the child after a 'significant complication'.
In the second incident it is alleged Dr Goldman did not realise he had amputated the boy's penis.
His parents were later changing the boy's nappy when they noticed something was not right and went to the hospital where the child required a blood transfusion.
Dr Goldman's lawyer told the tribunal he had only amputated the tip of the second boy's penis, however, the child's mother wrote to the tribunal alleging it had been 'amputated at the base'.
Barrister James Stoller said the botched operations weigh heavily on Dr Goldman and that he is so aware of the errors 'he's just not likely to repeat it'.
He said Dr Goldman would be financially ruined if he could not continue his business, which he has been building for decades.
The Medical Board of Australia's barrister Ben Jellis argued that 'money is money' but a patient's injuries would be for life.
'One (of these cases) was a life threatening complication with respect to the blood transfusion, the other was also one that required emergency surgery, potential lifelong disfigurement,' he said.
'We're dealing with the practitioner as he is now, rather than as he was or has been.'
A full VCAT hearing will be held later this year.
On Thursday senior member Ian Proctor reserved his decision on whether to stay the ban in the interim.’ (1)
Heschel’s medical negligence is pretty horrific by any stretch of the imagination and the fact that he was apparently unaware that he’d managed to amputate a boy’s penis during a circumcision operation shows that his sheer incompetence that can even be said to border on malice.
After all: how can a ‘top circumcision doctor’ manage to miss something as basic as cutting off a penis instead of simply removing the layer of skin around it?
It suggests that Goldman is either beyond incompetent or he is deliberately amputating the patient’s penis. This later possibility wouldn’t naturally occur but for the fact that it turns out – contrary to attempts to make it seem otherwise – that half if not more of Goldman’s circumcision patients were non-jews.
Since as ‘The Jewish Independent’ explains:
‘One affected family claims Goldman “pressed on with the ritual prayers for several minutes and delayed providing care to the infant” after their baby bled more than usual after the operation.’
‘The doctor submitted to the tribunal that he should be allowed to continue performing circumcisions in clinical settings only, and not in people’s homes, while the appeal process was ongoing.
He argued the ban would cause a “devastating financial impact” and be detrimental for the Jewish and non-Jewish community, as half his clients were Muslim.’ (2)
Put in another words: Goldman’s clientele is only at best half jewish and likely – because you do have non-jewish non-Muslims who do want to be circumcised for whatever reason – majority non-jewish.
This then renders Goldman’s actions – in the light of the stridently anti-gentile beliefs that lie at the very heart of Judaism and jewish identity itself – (3) to be potentially a form of malicious targeted abuse disguised as simple cases of botched surgery aimed at non-jews and the fact that he hasn’t simply been stuck off – as normally errors of this magnitude would require – an expression of the scale of jewish privilege due to significant jewish influence in Australia.
