David Meir-Levi's Hatred of Norman Finkelstien

A good example of how jews behave is given by citing David Meir-Levi’s repeated attempts to declare war on Norman Finkelstein.

To wit:

“Protest leads to friction… at Cal,” (J-, 11.7.08) failed to note that Dr. Finkelstein is a failed academic and disgraced pseudo-scholar who minimizes the Holocaust and vociferously declares his sympathies for Hamas and Hezbollah. He was fired from Brooklyn College, Hunter College, Rutgers, and New York University due to shoddy and dishonest scholarship, an absence of scholarly publications, and “…incompetence, mental instability, and abuse of students with political views different from his own.” He was denied tenure at DePaul for the same reasons.

All of his numerous publications have been anti-Israel and Holocaust-minimizing screed appearing on anti-Semitic websites.

He is the author of “The Holocaust Industry” about which Alan Dershowitz (Harvard Univ.) and Peter Novick (Univ. of Chicago) wrote “…no facts alleged by Finkelstein should be assumed to be really facts, no quotation in his book should be assumed to be correct…..many of his assertions are pure invention.” Professor Omer Bartov characterized Finkelstein’s book as “…brimming with indifference to historical facts, inner contradictions, strident politics…indecent…juvenile…self-righteous, arrogant and stupid.”

While a critique of the Tikvah students' voiced distaste for Finkelstein is justified, a far more compelling issue is: why does any academic institution countenance Finkelstein’s appearance on campus?

I would add further that David Meir-Levi isn't an actual 'scholar' of anything, but a former Insurance Broker who has circulated in jewish militant circles for quite some time and then decided to give up that line of work for the academy. He keeps on with Insurance advice as far as I know, but in a 'private capacity'.

His class on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at San Jose was - and is - so undersubscribed that he has had to repeatedly appeal on jewish mailing lists over the years in order to get the class to run at all.

The source for his animus against Finkelstein is that podgy little David here lost a public debate with him at the University of California in 2008 and not being a scholar himself - despite his claims to be one - he doesn't have anything left to go on [other than writing vicious little letters to the editor]. He also wrote an appalling book about the Israeli-Palestine conflict - read: ‘Israel is wonderful and not to blame for anything in particular’ [oh and HOLOCAUST!] - that really should be regarded as a waste of both paper and ink.
